Owing to this, I had the much-needed two-week break from pressures and routines. To spend the break with some friends and my cousin, Kuya Bong, who just celebrated his nth birthday last December 3rd, I decided to hit the road to Bahrain. Fresh from Saudi, I was met by my buddy-guide, Odjie, in Mandaluyong Restaurant near Awal Hotel of Manama. The Pinoy restaurant that used to be our hang-out and energy-filling station after our 2am gigs, haplessly, just moved to another place quite a distance from where it used to be. We therefore had a short walk to Swan Lake, another fave Pinoy restaurant just within the vicinity of Bab Al Bahrain, for some fill. Then, we walked straight to Aradous Hotel to chill out with Cyclone Bar's Pinoy band, Love Child. T'was a great night with Odjie! "Jabel" is an Arabic word for mountain, while Qarah is the name of that particular part of Hofuf where cream and orange rocks seem to have gathered together forming natural alleys through which the rays of the sun artistically pierce. Hence, the name Jabel Qarah. Among many Filipino expatriates here in the Kingdom, Jabel Qarah is so popular that they call it Judas' Cave. They believe that our Lord's traitor once inhabited the place before he curtailed the curse that grew in him.
